Meat Production by Area 2023

Most pork and beef was produced in South Ostrobothnia. In Southwest Finland, sheep meat was produced most.

  • In 2023, around 159 million kilos of pigmeat were produced, which was 7% less than in the previous year. Production decreased in several regions, with the largest decrease in volume in Southwest Finland. Pork production was highest in South Ostrobothnia and Southwest Finland.
  • The largest pork producing municipalities were Uusikaarlepyy (12 million kilos), Huittinen (11.9 million kilos), Loimaa (10.4 million kilos) and Seinäjoki (10 million kilos). 
  • Beef production increased by 2% to just over 85 million kilos. Production increased in several regions. Beef production was highest in South Ostrobothnia, North Ostrobothnia and North Savo.
  • Beef production was highest in Kiuruvesi (3.3 million kilos), Kuopio (3.1 million kilos) and Kurikka (2.4 million kilos).
  • Sheepmeat production fell by 9% to 1.1 million kilos. 
  • The highest sheep meat production was in Salo (90 000 kg), Somero (38 800 kg) and Kokkola (21 200 kg).
