Horticultural Statistics 2024

Strawberry production had a bad year, the harvest was left at 12 million kilos. By contrast, the apple produced a record crop, with vegetable production in the open field and in the greenhouse also increasing compared to 2023. The production area of the open ground was 17,857 hectares and the greenhouse area 375 hectares. The number of enterprises was 2,764.  

  • In 2024, the total number of horticultural enterprises was 2,764.
  • Outdoor cultivation area was 17,857 hectares and greenhouse area 375 hectares.
  • In terms of cultivation area, the most important open ground vegetables were garden pea 3,934 ha (1,568 ha of this frozen pea) carrot 1,748 ha and onion 1,204 ha.
  • The total harvest of outdoor vegetables amounted to 186 million kilos, of which 76 million kilos were carrots.
  • Berry production was 15 million kilos, the most important was strawberry, 12 million kilos.
  • The amount of greenhouse vegetables produced was 101 million kilos, of which 54 million kilos were cucumber and 41 million kilos were tomatoes*. Special tomatoes produced near 10 million kilos.
  • The cultivation area of ornamental plants in greenhouses totalled 107 ha. 

Starting from 2023, horticultural statistics are published at the level of regions instead of ELY Centre areas. The time series have been updated starting from 2019 based on the regional division of the latest statistical year.
