Horticultural Statistics 2011 (provisional)

  • There were 4,304 horticultural enterprises in 2011.
  • Outdoor production area was 16,563 hectares and greenhouse area 411 hectares.
  • Regarding area, the most important outdoor vegetables were garden pea (2,998 hectares), carrot (1,663 hectares) and onion (1,115 hectares).
  • The total outdoor vegetable harvest was 186 million kilos, and a record-high 73 million kilos of it was carrot.
  • 16 million kilos of berries were produced in an area of 6,073 hectares. Strawberry was the most important berry (13 million kilos and 3,386 hectares).
  • Greenhouse vegetable production was about 81 million kilos, of which 40 million was tomato, and a record-high 37 million kilos was cucumber.
  • 98 million pots of pot vegetables were produced, marking an increase of 16.6 million compared to the previous year.
  • The cut flower area decreased to 13 hectares.
  • A top volume of tulips were forced: 63 million onions.
