Finnish enterprises processed 72 million kilos of fish in 2021. This amount is almost four million kilos less than in 2019 when the previous statistics of fish processing products were compiled.
- Of all fish used as raw material for processed products, 38 million kilos were of a domestic origin and 34 million kilos were imported. The proportion of domestic fish decreased seven million kilos, while that of imported fish increased by four million kilos compared to 2019.
- Salmon was the most processed species, followed by herring and rainbow trout. These three species accounted for 92% of all fish-based raw material.
- The processing volume of salmon imported from Norway increased to 27 million kilos.
- The amount of full frozen Baltic herring and sprat for exports decreased by two million kilos from 23 to 21 million kilos.
- Almost 26 million kilos of fish were processed into fresh fillets. Two thirds of this was salmon imported from abroad.
- There were 119 fish processing enterprises, of which 16 processed more than one million kilos. These accounted for 86% of the total volume of processed fish.
