Commercial fellings, 9/2022

In September 2022, a total of 5.9 million cubic metres of roundwood was harvested for industrial use. This removal volume was the same as a previous year and 7% up from the five-year September average.

  • Sawlog removals were 3.0 million and pulpwood removals 2.9 million cubic metres. Compared with the average in Septmeber in the previous five years, sawlog removals were 16% higher and pulpwood removals were 1% lower.
  • Industrial roundwood removals from non-industrial private forests were 4.7 million cubic metres, down by 8% from the year before.
  • The felling volume in forest industry companies’ forests and state-owned forests was 1.2 million cubic metres, up by 14% from the year before.
  • Energywood removals totalled 709,000 cubic metres, up by 26% from the year before. 40% of the energywood was delimbed stems and whole-trees.
  • In January-Septmeber, 45.7 million cubic metres of roundwood were harvested for use by the forest industries. This removal volume was down 4% from the previous year and 1% from the five-year average. Compared with the average in the previous five years, sawlog removals were higher 8% and pulpwood removals 8% lower.
