Commercial fellings, 12/2024
In December, 4.9 million cubic meters of roundwood was harvested for industrial use, which was 1% less than in the previous year According to preliminary data, a total of 60.2 million cubic meters of roundwood was harvested for industrial use and export in 2024. The final data will be published in April.
December
- The commercial fellings of sawlogs was 2.5 million cubic metres and pulpwood fellings 2.5 million cubic metres.
- Industrial roundwood removals from non-industrial private forests were 3.8 million cubic metres, which was 3% less than in the previous year.
- Industrial roundwood removals from forest industry companies’ forests and state-owned forests were 1,1 million cubic metres, which was 10% less than in the previous year.
- Energywood removals was 383,000 cubic metres. Of this amount 70% were delimbed stems and whole-trees.
Preliminary data 2024
- According to the preliminary data, a total of 60.2 million cubic metres of roundwood were harvested for use by the forest industries in 2024.
- Removals decreased by 0.8 million cubic metres from last year and were four per cent below the average level of the previous five years.
- The majority (79%) of commercial fellings came from non-industrial private forests, totalling 47.6 million cubic metres of industrial roundwood, showing a decrease of 3% from the previous year.
- Roundwood removals from forests owned by the state and forest industry companies increased by 4% from the previous year to 12.5 million cubic metres.
- Log removals were 28.1 million and pulpwood removals 32.1 million cubic metres.
- Of the wood species, pine was harvested most for industrial use, 28.1 million cubic metres. Spruce removals were 23.4, and hardwood removals 8.7 million cubic metres.
- Energywood removals totalled 5.8 million cubic metres, being 22% less than in the year before. Of the harvested energywood, 55% was delimbed stems and whole trees.
Preliminary data on commercial fellings are based on monthly reports from around 25 companies. The final statistics is compiled using data from over 120 companies.

Commercial fellings includes the volumes of industrial roundwood and energywood harvested for industrial use or export. Total removals, i.e. all removals of stemwood, includes commercial fellings, firewood for small houses and wood for forest owners' own use.
