Nordic Initiative on Aquatic Food Systems: Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Nordic Food Production

Klimatfisk

The project, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers, investigates greenhouse gas emissions in Nordic aquatic food production. It is coordinated by the Norwegian research institute Nofima, with partners including the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), Lund University in Sweden, Aarhus University, the University of Copenhagen and the University of Southern Denmark in Denmark, the University of the Faroe Islands, and the University of Iceland. The aim of the project is to identify and assess the main sources of emissions within the aquatic food value chain and to compare differences between countries, species, and production methods. The project also examines the amount of food waste and its impact on the climate footprint of aquatic products. The research supports the green transition and sustainable use of natural resources in the Nordic region, and its results will benefit public authorities, industry, and research and development actors.
