The production, processing and transmission of digital information through ever-evolving technologies is transforming and making all industries, including agriculture, more efficient. Implementing Fair Data Economy in Agriculture project is developing tools for data exploitation, understanding and discoverability to (1) visualise business processes and data flows and assess their feasibility, (2) collecting agricultural data sources, meta descriptions and examples of exploitation in the open Agridatahub service, and (3) developing a model set of rules for a fair data economy, while starting the process of agreeing on a set of data-related rules of the game for the agricultural sector. The project will also (4) prototype and demonstrate collaborative data evaluation and peer learning.
The concepts and prototypes will be developed using systems thinking and modelling methods proven effective in previous projects (UML, BPMN, IHAN Ecosystem Diagram, IHAN Rulebook Model) and participatory methods such as focus group and workshop work. The project will produce models of a wide range of practical tools. The design and implementation of the models will be iterative and involve relevant stakeholders. The functionality of the models will be tested through case studies.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with and coordinated by the University of Tampere. Part of the project will be subcontracted.
The work of the project will promote the implementation of a fair data economy in agriculture and accelerate the digitalisation of farm businesses and the transition to a data economy. The project promotes the national development of fair data economy rules in agriculture and creates conditions for Finnish actors to participate in the European Common Data Space for Agriculture and the development of the Gaia-X infrastructure. The results will support AgriHubi activities by producing tools that can be used together by the actors of the network, promoting Finnish agricultural sector actors' competence in data management and utilisation. In addition, the collection and use of high-quality data in the development of AI solutions will be promoted in accordance with the rules of the fair data economy.
