Utilised Agricultural Area 2026 (preliminary)

Published 16.6.2026

The area under cereal cultivation in Finland decreased markedly in 2026, as farmland shifted to green manure grasslands as well as protein and oilseed crops. Despite these changes, the total agricultural area remained stable at around 2.2 million hectares. Grasslands remained the largest crop group, and fallow areas are increasingly oriented towards environmental purposes.

Key points:

  • Cereal area decreased by about 70,000 hectares, with declines across all major cereals
  • Protein and oilseed crop areas increased by more than 20,000 hectares combined
  • Pea cultivation reached a record level, exceeding 50,000 hectares
  • Green manure grassland area increased strongly, contributing to a rise in fallow land
  • Grasslands still account for over one-third of agricultural land

Statistical data on crop species and crop groups are also available by province in the preliminary statistics and by municipality in the final statistics. The number of agricultural holdings is published only in the final statistics. See the changes by crop in all tables in the statistics below the publication.
