Structure of agricultural and horticultural enterprises 2015

  • There were 51,000 agricultural and horticultural enterprises in Finland in 2015. The number of farms decreased by 1,800 from 2014.
  • The average utilised agricultural area of the farms was 44 hectares.
  • Average size of farms is 1.5 hectares more than year before.
  • The average age of farmers on privately owned farms was 50.8 years.
  • About 86 per cent of farms were family-run farms and eight per cent were farming syndicates, less than three per cent were heirs, and less than two per cent were limited companies.
  • On privately owned farms, a quarter of farmers were under the age of 43, and a quarter were over the age of 59. Half of the farmers were aged between 43 and 59.
