Some of this publication’s data is also classified according to amount of utilised agricultural area, production sector, and the age or gender of the farmer. Data on the number of farms is also available by municipality.
Data collection and sources
The source for these statistics is the Agricultural and Horticultural Enterprise Register, which is an annual compilation of data on all the farms engaging in agricultural or horticultural production in Finland with an economic size of at least EUR 2,000. The majority of the content of the register is based on official information gathered from farmers during their dealings with Finland’s agricultural industry administration. This data is supplemented with information received from other surveys and the register update questionnaire sent directly to farmers every few years.

The statistics are drawn up annually.
Preparation and publication schedule
The statistics are published in February.

Data from the Agricultural and Horticultural Enterprise Register was first published on the basis of data from 2013. Data on farms is available from 1972 onwards. Data on farm structure has been collected as part of the Agricultural Census since the 1920s.
