Structure of agricultural and horticultural enterprises 2013

The compilation of farm statistics has been renewed. The new Agricultural and Horticultural Enterprise Register combines the Farm Register and Horticultural Enterprise Register.
As part of the renewal, other changes were also made to the statistics:
- the lower threshold in the register is the farm’s economic output of EUR 2,000
- production sector data is now based on calculation
- statistics for land use were adjusted
There were 54,398 agricultural and horticultural enterprises in Finland in 2013. The number of farms decreased by 1,400 from 2012.
The average utilised agricultural area of the farms was 41,5 hectares.
The average age of farmers on privately owned farms was 50.6 years.
Grain growing was the most popular production line, chosen by 36% of farms.
