  • Finland had 59,042 farms in 2012, which marks a decrease of 2,500 from the previous year.
  • The average arable area of farms was 38.9 hectares, which is 1.5 hectares more than in 2011.
  • Two-thirds of farms mainly focused on plant production and nearly one-third on livestock husbandry.
  • The number of large farms is increasing, and the number of small farms is decreasing. The highest increase in number was recorded for farms with an arable area of more than 100 hectares.
  • The average age of farmers was 50.7 years, decreasing slightly from 2011.
  • About 90 per cent of farms were privately owned.
