Producer prices for fish 2017

  • In 2017 fishermen were paid a higher average price for salmon per kilogram than in 2016. Producer prices of salmon and rainbow trout increased significantly in 2016 and continued to increase further in 2017.
  • The producer price of rainbow trout was the highest in the 2000s (5,63 euro/kg). Also the producer price of farmed white fish was the highest (10,17 euro/kg).
  • The producer price of sprat and Baltic herring defined as feed was 0,18 euro per kilo and the price of Baltic herring defined as food appropriate for human consumption was 0,24 euro per kilo. The majority of the total Baltic herring catch is used as raw material in the feed industry.
  • Producer prices of other fish did not differ significantly from the previous year's prices.
  • Information about fish producer prices is collected from enterprises that purchase fish from fishermen.  Information about the producer price of farmed fish is obtained from the Finnish Fish Farmers' Association.
