Producer prices for fish 2015

  • The average prices paid to fish producers rose slightly in 2015 compared to the previous year.
  • Meanwhile, the average producer price of the most important fish species for commercial fishing, Baltic herring, decreased. The price of Baltic herring intended for human consumption remained close to the 2014 level, at €0.27/kilo, whereas the price of Baltic herring used as feed fell from €0.20 to €0.16. Almost 80% of the Baltic herring catch landed in Finland was sold as feed.
  • The average producer price of rainbow trout was €3.59 and that of farmed European whitefish €9.49 in 2015. An average rise of €0.91 was seen in the price of farmed European whitefish from the year before, while the price of rainbow trout decreased by €0.45, or some 10%. Rainbow trout is the most widely produced fish species in Finland.
  • The prices paid to marine fishermen for perch and pike were around 10% higher than in the previous year. The producer prices of European whitefish, pikeperch, vendace, burbot and ide also rose a little.
