Number of pigs 1 April 2023 and number of sheep and goats 1 May 2023 (provisional)

On 1 April 2023, there were about 982 000 pigs just under 700 farms. The number of pigs decreased by 7% and the number of holdings by 15% compared to the previous year.
The number of sows was around 69 500, down 8% on last year.
The number of sheep decreased by 8% on the previous year, reaching just under 122 000 on 1 May 2023. There were 63 000 (-7%) lamb ewes.
The number of goats in spring 2023 was just over 5 800.
