Number of bovine animals, 1 May 2024 (provisional)

The number of dairy cows decreased by three per cent and number of suckler cows by two per cent compared with the previous year.

• At the beginning of May there were 793 800 cattle, down 3% on the previous year. The decrease was in all cattle groups. Some 7 240 holdings had cattle. 
• There were around 233 600 dairy cows, 3% fewer than last year. The number decreased in all provinces except Åland. The average number of cows per holding was 55. 
• There were just over 63 000 suckler cows, down 2% on the previous year.
