- At the beginning of May, cattle totalled 925,800, a year-on-year increase of slightly under one per cent. A total of 15,656 farms had cattle.
- The number of suckler cows increased by 7 per cent, while the number of dairy cows decreased slightly.
- 11,907 farms had dairy cows and the average herd size grew to 24.3 cows. There were 122 farms with more than 100 dairy cows.
