Horticultural Statistics 2013

  • In 2013, there were 3,859 horticultural enterprises. There was a decrease of 191 enterprises (–5%) compared to the previous year.
  • The outdoor production area was the same as in 2012, that is, 15,729 hectares, and the greenhouse area was 392 hectares (–2%).
  • In terms of area, the most important outdoor vegetables were peas (2,783 hectares), carrots (1,582 hectares) and onions (1,113 hectares).
  • The outdoor vegetable harvest was 176 million kilos, of which 71 million kilos were carrots.
  • In total, 16 million kilos of berries were produced in an area of 5,967 hectares. The share of strawberries was 13 million kilos in an area of 3,368 hectares.
  • Greenhouse vegetable production was 79 million kilos, of which 38 million kilos were tomatoes and 36 million kilos were cucumbers.
  • A record quantity of potted lettuce was produced: 77 million pots. The total quantity of potted vegetables produced was 97 million pots.
  • Ornamental plant production occupied an area of 128 hectares in greenhouses. The share of cut flowers and foliage was seven hectares of this area.
