Fish and fish products were imported to Finland in July 2021 worth approximately EUR 33 million; about 6.3 million kilos. Of this, less than 0.9 million kilos were fresh whole salmon re-exported via Finland to the rest of Europe. In July, 1.8 million kilos of salmon imported to Finland remained in the country.
The value of imports decreased by 1.8 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year, while the volume of imports decreased by 15%. Norway accounted for 62% of imports.
93 percent of the fish imported in July was food fish. About 7 per cent were animal feed (465,000 kg). The most important import items were fresh whole salmon (2.7 million kg) and canned tuna (0.5 million kg), as well as other canned fish (0.6 million kg).
In July, about 1.9 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland. In total, the value of exports in July was about 6.4 million euros. 85% of the exported fish were food fish. 284,000 kilos of fish were exported for feed. The largest exports were fresh whole salmon (0.9 million kg), frozen whole herring (0.5 million kg) and fish waste (0.3 million kg).
The value of exports decreased by 51% in July compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, with the volume of exports decreasing 74%.
