Estimated area sown to winter crops 2022

Winter sowings 2022 in Finland compared to previous years cultivated area:

• The estimated area sown with winter wheat was 74,100 hectares (+106%).
• The estimated area sown with winter rye was 31,000 hectares (+57%).
• The area sown with winter rape and-turnip rape was 6,000 hectares (+200%).
• The area sown with organic winter rye was 6,600 hectares and organic winter wheat 4,600 hectares.
• Direct seeding was used for 17% of winter wheat, representing 12,300 hectares of the total area sown with winter wheat.
• Direct seeding was used for 7% of winter rye, representing 2,100 hectares of the total area sown with winter rye.

The estimated area sown to winter crops was asked from farms during Luke's crop production survey, covering 6,000 farms. The sown area will be specified next June when sown areas entered by farms in the rural business register of the Finnish Food Authority.
