Crop production 2023 (provisional)

According to Luke’s harvest estimate, the cereal harvest will be close to 3 million tons. The organic cereal harvest will be roughly 143,000 tons, accounting for 5% of the total cereal harvest.

  • The total cereal harvest in 2023 will be 3 million tons (-16% from the previous year)
    • Barley: 1.08 million tons (-24%)
    • Oats: 1.01 million tons (-14%)
    • Wheat: 0.73 million tons (-12%)
    • Rye: 0.09 million tons (+41%)
  • Turnip rape and rapeseed: 42 million kilos combined (-25%)
  • Potato: 499,000 tons (-7%)*
  • Pea: 89,000 tons (-2%)
  • Broad bean: 12,000 tons (-37%)

The 2022 organic cereal harvest totals 143,000 tons (-20% from the previous year) - accounts for 5% of Finland’s total cereal production.

  • Organic barley: 14,000 tons (-14%)
  • Organic oats: 84,000 tons (-21%)
  • Organic wheat: 18,000 tons (-21%)
  • Organic rye: 13,000 tons (+33%)
  • Organic rape and turnip rape: 5,000 tons (+58%)
  • Organic potatoes: 9,000 tons (-5%)
  • Organic peas: 10,000 tons (+24%)
  • Organic broad bean: 2,000 tons (-32%)

The data will be reported as final in February 2024, when the confirmed data supplied by farms included in the sample will become available for the calculation of harvest volumes. Information about the quality of the cereal harvest has been compiled by combining the crop production data collected by Luke and the Finnish Food Authority’s cereal quality monitoring information.
