Industrial roundwood removals by region 2017

  • In 2017, 62.9 million m³ of roundwood was harvested for use by the forest industries. This removal volume was an all-time high and 1.1 million m³ (+2%) bigger than in 2016. Compared to the average for the preceding ten-year period, the increase was 17%.
  • Sawlogs accounted for 27.2 million m³ and pulpwood for 35.7 million m³ of the industrial roundwood removal.
  • Removals from forests in non-industrial private ownership were up by 1% from the previous year to a total of 51.7 million m³.
  • Forest industry companies and the state harvested 11.3 million m³ of roundwood from their forests, which is 5% more than the preceding year.
  • In total, 4.9 million m³ of energy wood was harvested in 2017. Of this amount, 2.7 million m³ was delimbed stems and whole-trees. The remaining 2.2 million m³ consisted of logging residues and stumps.
