Industrial roundwood removals by region 2015

  • In 2015, 58.5 million m³ of roundwood was harvested for use by the forest industries. This removal volume was an all-time high and 2.6 million m³ (+5%) more than in 2014. Compared to the average for the preceding ten-year period, the increase was 12%.
  • Sawlogs accounted for 24.6 million m³ and pulpwood for 33.9 million m³ of the industrial roundwood removal.
  • Removals from forests in non-industrial private ownership were up by 8% from the previous year to a total of 48.1 million m³.
  • Forest industry companies and Metsähallitus harvested 10.4 million m³ of roundwood from their forests, which is 8% less than the preceding year.
  • Previously, until 2014, data on removals was published by forestry board districts. From 2015, regional administrative units of Finland are in use. Due to data confidentiality, removals by forest ownership category are presented only by larger regions, which are combinations of these administrative regions.
