Cereals balance sheet, 2025- 26 (provisional) and 2024 - 25 (final figures)

In 2025, the cereal harvest was at a regular level at 3.4 billion kilograms, showing an increase of some 240 million kilograms from the previous year. This was sufficient to cover the domestic use of cereals of 2.7 billion kilograms. The food industry accounted for some 500 million kilograms, animal feed for roughly 1.6 billion kilograms, other domestic industrial uses for approximately 280 million kilograms and the next year’s crop production, or sowing, for 240 million kilograms. The cereals balance sheet estimate for the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 will be specified as final in a year from now.

• In 2025, cereal production totalled roughly 3.4 billion kilograms – the domestic consumption of cereals during the harvest year from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 was 2.7 billion kilograms.
• Livestock feeding accounted for some 1.6 billion kilograms of the cereal harvest.
• Approximately 500 million kilograms of cereals were used in food production, with wheat accounting for half. The use of oats, at 200 million kilograms, has continued to grow and is now nearly triple that of rye, at 72 million kilograms.
• Oat exports declined from the previous year to 347 million kilograms.
• Cereal imports doubled from the previous year to 30 million kilograms.
• The cereal stockpile grew from the previous year. The stockpile was at about 1.2 billion kilograms at the beginning of the harvest year (1 July 2025) and at about 1.4 billion kilograms at its end (1 July 2026).

The cereals balance sheet’s data for the harvest year from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 are preliminary and will be specified in September 2027. Data for the harvest year from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 have now been specified as final. All data in the statistical database are available per crop from the harvest year of 1 July 2004 – 30 June 2005.
