  • Agriculture and horticulture provided employment to approximately 150,000 people in 2013.
  • Of this total, nearly 70% was accounted for by farmers and their family members.
  • In agriculture and horticulture, around 73,000 person-years were recorded in 2013.
  • Approximately 80% of all work in agriculture and horticulture was carried out by farmers and their family members.
  • More than 15,000 foreign nationals worked in agriculture and horticulture, performing nearly 5% of the work in this sector.
  • Nearly every second person in charge of a farm had an agricultural or horticultural training.
  • The share of full-time work performed by farmers varies greatly between production years. Some 45% of grain farmers work full time, whereas 97% of dairy farmers do so.
