The project aims at promoting preservation of biodiversity and nature values of River Vuoksi and surroundings on both sides of the Finnish-Russian border while enabling also the development of nature-based tourism on both sides of the border. The project promotes sustainable development, with special emphasis on sustainable use of the Vuoksi nature.


The project i) produces information on River Vuoksi nature and factors impacting it, ii) prepares plans, recommendations and scenarios based on the information for aiding decision-making and management actions, iii) takes action to preserve Vuoksi nature values and biodiversity, iv) promotes dialogue among cross-border authorities on environmental issues and sustainable use, iv) produces and utilises diverse material and means to increase environmental awareness of inhabitants and tourists.

RiverGo is implemented in Finnish-Russian cooperation of three partners: Natural Resources Institute Finland and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre) of South-East Finland, and the Biologists for Nature Conservation, BFNC, from Russia.







The project is funded by the European Union, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Finland. It has also received co-financing from the ELY-Centre of Southwest Finland and the Foundation of Raija and Ossi Tuuliainen.
