Saprolegniosis is a common fish disease in freshwater environments. It is caused by oomycetes of genus Saprolegnia which are common in all freshwater environments. Water mold induces problems in fish and other aquatic species world wide but so far, only few studies and confirmed information is available regarding the causes leading to saprolegniosis. This study aims at finding scientifically validated relationship between environmental conditions, water quality and observed saprolegniosis cases, which would enable treatment procedures even proactively, leading to reduced water mold related losses in valuable fish stocks.
