The use of wood chips in energy production is increasing as a result of the war in Ukraine and
the reduction of peat use. The climate efficiency and economy of using wood chips can be
improved by burning fresh wood chips in plants that can be equipped with flue gas scrubbers.
The Fresh Fuelchips -project maps the energy plants in Eastern Finland that are suitable for
burning fresh wood chips and for condensing and heat recovery in connection with flue gas
cleaning. As a result of the project, we will get a plan for increasing the use of wood chips in
Eastern Finland and step signs for more climate-efficient and economical use of wood chips in
accordance with the growing environmental requirements. Total budget is 160 552 € and EU funding 120 392 €.
