Developing growing media from side streams

Growing media are commonly used to support the development of a wide variety of plants. For this purpose, we currently use mainly peat. However, as peat extraction from peatlands turns this globally significant C sink into a source of GHGs, there is growing demand to search for alternative materials as a replacement for peat-based growing media. Here, we aim to develop new growing media from both non-processed and processed side-streams.
