PURETA

The aim is to study the winter hardiness of Finnish main tree species and hardiness changes in future varying winter temperatures during snow-free winters. In the project, de-hardening and re-hardening abilities of tree species at different points in winter and spring during heat periods and subsequent periods of freezing temperature. The project provides preliminary information on the winter risks of tree species in a changing climate. The data can be used to make decisions, for example, about winter protection needs in nurseries.
