Life cycle sustainability impacts of reindeer meat and reindeer tourism in Finland

PoroLCA

Reindeer management faces serious consequences caused by climate change and land use. In order to adapt to these changes, free grazing on natural pastures has been supplemented by adding winter feeding to pastures or in enclosures. The goal of the project is to make a product-specific life cycle sustainability assessment for reindeer meat and its by-products, as well as for reindeer used in tourism. The project serves both business and administration. As a result, basic information on the carbon footprint of reindeer meat after slaughtering and cutting as well as reindeer in tourism in Finland, will be given and awareness and understanding about the life-cycle sustainability impacts of reindeer husbandry will be spread and discussed.
