Storage diseases of carrot cause significant yield losses in Finland. In this project we will study the interaction between soil microbes and storage diseases and develop new and efficient identification methods for the pathogens. This project complements the Bioporkkana project and they together produce an estimation of the effect of potentially beneficial micorbes in improving the storage quality of carrot. Moreover at the end of the project there will be improved ability to indentify new and forthcoming storage diseases. This can be utilised e.g. in developing forecast methods for plant diseases.
