Breakthrough for open forest and nature data – from data masses to products and efficient tools for service production

The purpose of this project is a breakthrough in the adoption and utilization of forest and natural resource data in the forest-based bio economy as well as in natural product business and recreational services. The mission of the project is to reinforce the current forest data ecosystem, which consists of the production and further processing open data by public administration, service platform of forest data, as well as customer-oriented software and systems development by companies. The breakthrough of forest data will be prepared through spearhead subprojects for demonstration, conceptual models for the end products of forest data service processes, and proof of concepts. In this context, forest data products are referred as the customer value-adding outcomes of data management and calculation service processes, which utilize open forest data.
Goals
- Improve the productivity and service experience of forest services through digital transformation and LEAN thinking.
- Start the extensive adoption of software tools that utilize open forest data among the forest service providers.
- Develop conceptual models and proof of concepts for the production process of data-based service products, which give strategic overview of the regional operational environment and business potential.
- Develop a stand level data-based product concept for climate smart forestry.
Outputs
- LEAN sessions and workshops will be arranged. The productivity and service experience of service providers will be improved.
- Sparring, internet courses and coaching of small and middle-sized enterprises (SMEs). The adoption and utilization of digital tools will increase.
- Service concepts, which provide regional level information for climate- and resource smart decisions of forestry, as well as for multiple use of forests.
- A service product, which consists of stand-wise maps, classifications for carbon stocks, as well as for silvicultural methods.
