The OLCA project aims to advance scientific understanding of the environmental impacts of organic products produced under northern conditions, with a particular focus on Finland. So far, little environmental research has been conducted on Finnish organic production, particularly on organic products, resulting in insufficient research data available for societal use. One of the key challenges has been the lack of assessment methods capable of distinguishing between emissions or other factors causing environmental effects that differ between organic and conventional production. The OLCA project seeks to address these gaps by developing life cycle assessment methods and by applying recently developed assessment methods with improved sensitivity to the differences between organic and conventional production.
