Effective utilization of genome selection in a breeding program requires optimization of several components: the use of selection indices in different crossbreeding programs, how the genome selection model can be improved with new cumulative data, what breeding scheme is most efficient combined with genome selection, how resources are optimally allocated. The research focuses mainly on the development of a breeding evaluation model containing genomic information and its practical implementation. The project will find out how to allocate resources in a barley breeding program based on genome selection. Genome selection aims to increase barley yield.
