The main objective of the project is to produce and disseminate information on the factors affecting the methane footprint of beef and to present measures suitable for beef farm practices that can reduce methane emissions from cattle farms at the farm level. As a concrete measure, practical guidelines will be compiled for reducing methane emissions in beef production. The project's work packages include: 1) conducting a literature review on dietary factors affecting methane emissions from cattle, 2) modeling factors affecting the methane footprint of beef using existing data, 3) conducting a feeding experiment on the effects of silage digestibility and plant species on methane production, 4) compiling guidelines on measures suitable for beef cattle farms' practices that can reduce methane emissions at the farm level, 5) assessing the rationality of operating models that reduce methane production on a production chain scale, taking into account the economic impacts, and 6) distributing information generated in the project to target groups in a timely manner.
