Changes in the structure of forests, forest carbon sinks and the regional economic impacts due to the changes in the forest use in eastern and northern provinces of Finland (MEMU)

MEMU

The project produces information about the changes of forest structure since the 1960s, peatland forests, as well as estimates of the cutting possibilities, and forest carbon sinks in the eastern and northern provinces of Finland (Lapland, Northern Ostrobothnia, Kainuu, Central Ostrobothnia, North Savo, North Karelia, South Savo) and South Karelia. Furthermore, the potential effects of increased protection of forests on cutting possibilities and the development of forests and regional economies in the next decades are estimated in the project. The EU policies related to the forests and their effects in eastern and northern Finland are also considered in the project.
