The main goal of the Innokaupunki Joensuu project is to strengthen the innovation-driven competitiveness, growth, vitality, employment and internationalization of the Joensuu region. Luke's role in the project is focused on the development of forest bioeconomy value chains and future forest planning.
The Innokaupunki Joensuu project also creates a common vision and strategy of the region's ecosystem actors and its high-quality implementation in the leading industries of forest bio-circular economy and photonics. The Innokaupunki Joensuu project focuses on the development of smart forestry, international networks and Joensuu's photonics service offering through the strategy and action plan work of leading industries. In addition, the project develops cooperation between research and business in both top industries.
Innokaupunki Joensuu is a group project led and coordinated by Business Joensuu Oy, whose part-implementers are the University of Eastern Finland, Karelia Ammattikorkeakoulu Oy, Luonnonvarakeskus and the city of Joensuu. The project implements the Innovation Activity Ecosystem Agreement 2021 – 2027 drawn up and signed between the city of Joensuu and the state in 2021.
