Improving the Capacity of Myanmar National Forest Inventory

Goals

Sustainable use of forest resources plays an important role in Myanmar's economy. In recent decades, the forest area, forest resources and forest biodiversity has decreased markedly. Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Finland will finance and FAO will develop the National Forest Monitoring and Information System (NFMIS). IC-MNFI project supports this work by arranging practical (and theoretical) training courses for local experts working with NFI related issues and by updating equipment to meet the needs of new inventory methods.

Outputs

The capacity and expertise in assessment and monitoring of forest resources in partner organizations will strengthen. Procurement of equipment and updating of laboratory facilities in FRI and in UFES will strengthen the capacity of analyzing of soil samples coming from NFI.
