Applying the methods of genomics as well as forward and reverse genetics to understanding and improving the traits of crop plants needed for present and future Nordic conditions. Among these plants are naturally oats. Lidija Bitz is also active in PanOat and has been leading the sequencing of the transcriptome within that project and was also leading the Luke project «OatStanding» in which first genome of Finnish oat Aslak has been sequenced and strongly focusing on revealing genetic mechanisms underlying disease resistance and heavy metals uptake in oats.
