Description
The Finnish Forest Industries Federation collects information from its member companies about the purchasing volume and price of roundwood purchased from non-industrial private forests and, on the basis of this information, produces the service for the weekly monitoring of roundwood trade. This service is not produced by the statistical services of the Luke, and it is not responsible for this data.
Data content
The weekly monitoring of roundwood trade is prepared on the basis of assortments, types of trade (standing sales and delivery sales) and regions and, starting from 2011, also on the basis of felling methods. The published unit prices of roundwood are averages from the previous four weeks, and the trading volumes are the realised volumes of the target week.
Classifications used
The types of trade involving non-industrial private forests are standing sales and delivery sales. In addition, standing sales are divided into different felling methods: regeneration felling, thinning and first thinning.
The assortments used in the weekly monitoring of roundwood trade are pine, spruce and birch logs, pine, spruce and birch pulpwood, and small-sized pine and spruce logs. Prices are divided regionally on the basis of roundwood price regions. Of the purchased roundwood volumes, the sum of purchasing volumes per Finnish Forest Centre region is only published, without any division into assortments.
Data collection methods and data sources
In the weekly monitoring of roundwood trade, prices and volumes are based on prices entered in roundwood trade agreements between buyers and sellers. The prices do not include any other increments or services related to roundwood trade.
The Finnish Forest Industries Federation collects the data and calculates the results. The information only concerns roundwood trade by member companies of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation.
