Weekly monitoring of roundwood trade

The weekly monitoring of roundwood trade consists of information about roundwood trade by member companies of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation. The published unit prices of roundwood are averages from the previous four weeks, and the trading volumes are the realised volumes of the target week. Regional prices by type of sale and roundwood trading volumes are presented.

The monitoring information is updated once a week. The aim is to publish new information by 9 am on Tuesday following the target week.

Luke compiles statistics on industrial roundwood trade per month and calendar year. Luke’s statistics are more comprehensive than the weekly monitoring of prices, because they include not only the member companies of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation, but also other wood buyers.

In 2021, a total of 47 million cubic metres of roundwood was recorded in Luke’s wood trade statistics. Therefore, the volumes of Luke’s wood trade statistics were some 11 million cubic metres, or 30%, higher than the Finnish Forest Industries Federation’s weekly monitoring of wood trade.

Due to these differences, there are also differences in the average prices presented. In Luke’s statistics, the nominal average prices of all six main assortments in standing sales in 2021 were higher than in the Finnish Forest Industries Federation’s weekly monitoring of wood trade. Unit prices were an average of 1.4% higher in all standing sales and 1.2% higher in regeneration felling in Luke’s statistics. In delivery sales, the average prices of the six main assortments recorded in Luke’s statistics were 3.5% higher on average.

14 Jan 2020 Wood trade price regions were changed at the beginning of 2020 when the Kainuu–Pohjanmaa price region was divided into Pohjois-Pohjanmaa and Kainuu–Koillismaa regions.
