In 2014, a total of 324,000 tonnes of wood pellets were produced in Finland, one-fifth more than in the previous year. The volume was the third highest recorded in the period in which statistics have been compiled.
The consumption of wood pellets based on domestic pellet production grew 7 per cent year-on-year to 239,000 tonnes and was higher than ever before. The consumption of domestic wood pellets increased in heating and power plants (+10% year-on-year), while use in small-scale housing and farms remained the same.
Both the exports (–28%) and imports (–23%) of wood pellets decreased year-on-year. The export volume of wood pellets was the lowest recorded so far.
