Published 27.2.2018

The last quarter of year 2017:

  • Share of logging residues was 55 per cent of energywood sales in the fourth quarter of 2017. The average price paid for it was EUR 3.1 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 15.5 in delivery sales. In standing sales the price of logging residues decreased by nine per cent and in delivery sales by one per cent compared to the previous quarter.
  • A little less than two fifths of energywood was pruned stemwood. This was the most valuable type of energywood; the average price paid for it was EUR 4.0 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 23.7 in delivery sales. In standing sales the unit price was down by three per cent and in delivery sales the price increased by three per cent.

Year 2017:

  • The average price paid for energywood was EUR 3.5 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 20.6 in delivery sales. The average prices were nominally on the same level as in the previous year, but the real price level decreased by four per cent (deflated using wholesale price index).
  • Logging residues valued EUR 3.2 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 15.1 in delivery sales. In standing sales the real price was down by five per cent and in delivery sales three per cent compared to the previous year.
  • In standing sales the price of pruned stemwood was EUR 4.4 and in delivery sales it was EUR 23.3. Prices drop by two per cent compared to 2016.
  • Logging residues accounted half and pruned stemwood two fifths of all recorded energywood in 2017. Stumps and unpruned stems made up the remaining ten per cent.
  • The volume of wood reported in the statistics was 3.6 million cubic metres, which represented about half of the amount of the forest chips consumed by heating and power plants. The total amount of energywood purchased was about one fourth bigger than during the year before.

The recorded prices do not include government subsidy and the prices may also be negative. Subsidy payments were rejected 7.5.2016–19.4.2017, after which applications have been accepted again.

Data concerning the second and third quarter of 2017 was corrected February 27, 2018.
