There were a total of 45,630 agricultural and horticultural enterprises in Finland in 2020. The number of farms decreased by roughly 1 197 from 2019.
The average utilisable agricultural area was 50 hectares per farm.
The average area of leased arable land was 15 hectares per farm.
In 2020, the average age of farmers was 53 years.
Some 86% of all farms were family-run, 9% were farming syndicates, while farms owned by heirs and limited liability farms represented about 3%.
Roughly 8% of farmers on privately owned farms were under 35 years old, while 32% of these farmers were over 60 years old.
70% of farms had crop production as their production line, while 25% of farms were classified as livestock farms. The other Finnish farms are mixed farms with no single clear primary production line.
