  • There were about 68,500 farms in Finland – a fall of about 1,100 farms on 2007.
  • The average field area rose to 35 hectares.
  • 60 per cent of farms cultivated leased fields.
  • Grain cultivation remained the most common line of production.
  • There was a greater decline in the number of farms rearing livestock than in other types of farms.
  • Dairy cow farms had an average of 21.7 cows.
  • The average age of farmers was about 50.
  • About 10 per cent of farmers were women.
