As significantly higher prices are paid for fish sold for human consumption than for industrial fish, the proportion of catch sold for industrial use has a significant impact on the producer price for non-gutted fish recorded in the statistics for species part of which ends up in industrial uses. This partly explains the apparently high increase in the produce price for vendace between 2022 and 2023. In this publication, the statistics on producer prices for fish were expanded to also cover separate producer prices for fish sold for human consumption and industrial fish regarding other species besides Baltic herring. In addition to Baltic herring, sprat and vendace caught at sea, cyprinids and perch are sold for industrial use.

Producer prices for non-gutted fish sold for human consumption in 2023

  • Vendace EUR 3.95 per kilo
  • Perch EUR 2.52 per kilo
  • Bream EUR 0.86 per kilo
  • Roach EUR 0.75 per kilo

The statistics on producer prices for fish represent the producer prices paid for fish landed at ports in Finland’s sea areas. Producer prices for farmed fish will be published in the statistical database of the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) in conjunction with the publication of aquaculture statistics during week 26 (starting on 24 June).
