- About 30 per cent of farms engage in other gainful activities besides agriculture and horticulture.
- The number of farms engaging in other gainful activities is on the decline, even though their relative share has remained unchanged.
- Close to 30,000 people work in other gainful activities.
- Work on other gainful activities on farms amounts to about 11,000 person-years.
- Almost 40 per cent of farms engaging in other gainful activities generate less than EUR 10,000 in net sales from such activities.
- About 600 farms sell their own products directly to consumers.
- At about 20 per cent of these farms, direct sales account for more than half of total sales.
