Foreign trade in fish, 6/2021 (preliminary)

  • Fish and fish products were imported to Finland in June 2021 worth approximately EUR 31 million; about 6.7 million kilos. Of this, less than 0.5 million kilos were transit imports of fresh whole salmon, where the salmon was exported to other parts of Europe via Finland. In June, 2.1 million kilos of salmon imported to Finland remained in the country.
  • The value of imports decreased by 23 percent from the corresponding period of the previous year, while the volume of imports decreased by 20 percent. Norway accounted for 58% of imports.
  • 86 percent of the fish imported in June was food fish. About 14% were animal feed (953,000 kg). The most important import items were fresh whole salmon (2.5 million kg) and canned tuna (0.7 million kg), as well as other canned fish (0.5 million kg).
  • In June, about 1.8 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland. In total, the value of exports in June was about 5.4 million euros. 70% of the exported fish were food fish. 534,000 kilos of fish were exported for feed. The largest exports were frozen whole herring (0.5 million kg), fresh whole salmon (0.5 million kg) and fish waste (0.5 million kg).
  • The value of exports decreased by 58% in June compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, with the volume of exports decreasing 73%.
